Product Description KNIPEX 87 01 560 US Cobra XXL Water Pump Pliers Amazon.com Self locking on pipes and nuts (view larger). No more time-consuming test-adjusting to achieve the correct size. With the Knipex Cobra XXL water pump pliers, you can simply position the upper jaw to the workpiece, push the button, and close the lower jaw. The 16-inch Cobra XXL (model 87 01 560) offers the power and comfort of water pump pliers while being lighter in weight and having a greater gripping capacity than comparable pipe wrenches. It can grip a 4-1/2-inch pipe coupling and weighs as much as 2-inch pipe wrenches, which have a much lower gripping capacity. And its 22-inch size makes it the biggest pliers around. The unique self-locking adjustment and induction hardened gripping teeth means that once it's set, it stays. There's no slipping and no need to waste strength squeezing the pliers — ensuring operator safety and more efficient work. Cobra's unique jaw configuration can grip any shape object — flat, round, hex, or square. It also eliminates nut burring to avoid stripping pipes, nuts, or bolts. Additionally, the Cobra's newly redesigned adjustment provides 30 percent more gripping capacity than previous models.A simple push of the patented push button adjustment maintains jaw size setting and gives you the correct size opening every time. Just position the upper jaw to the workpiece, push the button, adjust the opening, and close the lower jaw. And it's easily done with just one hand for trouble-free operation in confined spaces. Cobra water pump pliers are constructed from chrome vanadium electric steel, an innovative high alloy, oil tempered steel that ensures longevity. Their thin head design helps you get into spaces other pliers can't, so there's no need to change tools when working in tight confines. And you'll also be able to say goodbye to blood blisters you get with other gripping pliers. With safety its first priority, Knipex has designed a built-in pinch guard that prevents blood blisters on your hand.Patented push button system (view larger).Quality in Every DetailSometimes we give our pliers a really hard time. We try to destroy them to find out what makes them good and long-lasting. Because we don't want to leave anything to chance, we take a long, careful look. The steel Knipex uses is precisely hardened with a maximum of 0.8 percent carbon and defined parts of chromium and vanadium, guaranteeing optimum cutting performance and service life — even though it requires special production and costs a bit more. But our high product demands require this. The rivet of our high-leverage diagonal cutter also has to stand up to a lot of stress. That's why we literally give it backup: we forge it straight onto the pliers. This means extra effort as we have to precision mill the rivet to a few hundredth millimeters. But satisfied users are worth this effort.Knipex also looks closely at the small details. The angles, the sharpness, the hardness, the toughness of the cutting edges. The precision and smooth movement of the joint. The handle design and the finish. We keep reviewing these subjects, we research, we test, and we improve our pliers.About KnipexHeadquartered in Wuppertal, Germany, Knipex is an independently-owned family enterprise steeped in tradition and specializing in the manufacturing of high-quality pliers. It all started back in 1882 when C. Gustav Putsch set up his own forge shop in Cronenberg (now a suburb of Wuppertal), and the company is now run by a fourth generation of that family. The world's leading brand in pliers today, Knipex is focused on the performance, service life, and ergonomics of its tools in order to meet the high expectations of professional users.87 01 560 XXL Cobra Pliers, 22-InchAt a GlanceAdjustment at the touch of a button directly on the workpieceFast, firm adjustment directly on the workpieceSelf-locking on pipes and nuts: no slipping on the workpiece and low hand force requiredGripping surfaces with special hardened teethPinch guard prevents operators' fingers from being pinchedChrome vanadium heavy-duty steel, forged and oil-hardenedSee larger image.SpecificationsJaw capacity: Up to 4-1/2-inch for round and 4-3/4-inch for hexAdjustment positions: 20Length: 22 inchesWeight: 97 ouncesHandles: Plastic coating From the Manufacturer Fast adjustment directly on the work piece eliminates time-consuming test adjusting of the correct opening size. I had heard all the hype about these pliers and found it hard to believe that they could really be better than any other pliers. Well, I was wrong. These are amazing with superior grip to any other pliers I have used. This supper strong grip is accomplished with much less "gripping" effort due to the excellent design resulting in much less fatigue. Highly recommend. Worth the price.Unusual set of pliers, but once you get the adjustment correct, they really work well and grip the fastener or whatever you need to hold on to very tightly. Teeth are aggressive so they really bite. If whatever you're grabbing is a cosmetic piece, be advised they will more than likely leave marks where they dug into the piece. But your fastener will come loose!I’ve been a maintenance mechanic and diesel mechanic for over 20 years. These are worth their weight in gold. They just work better than everything else. Buy them. I’m all the sizes. I keep a 3” pair in my pocket all dayOriginal Knipex gator grip pliers are the kind of tool you injure people for borrowing. When I misplaced my last pair I ordered these. They are not the original style but they work equality well once you get used to the push button adjustment.I got these pliers to keep in my pocket at work and I'll tell ya, these are some of the best little pliers I have ever used- the shape of the jaw really grabs whatever you put it on and I really like how the adjustment works, you can set it and forget it. My old pliers would lose the setting in my pocket everytime, but not these ones! Worth every penny.Awesome pliers keep them in my pocket every day would be lost without them super strong can’t say enough about themUnlike most common pliers, these are precision made with hard steel. I returned the 7 1/4" version and got the 10" set instead finding the 10" version easier for me to use.If you are an automotive technician you have to have these pliers They’re very small but they’re perfect when you’re working on cars you don’t have a lot of room and when you need a really really good set of pliers you need theseThese pliers not only grab, turn, lock onto anything. These pliers helped deliver my first 3 children. These pliers saved my marriage. This pliers made me quit drinking. They have the immortal power of the Ancient Greek gods inside them. Would trade my eternal soul for another set.Over the years I have bought several tools from the Knipex range, and have always found them to be well-made, hardwearing, and a pleasure to use. And I see no reason why this latest addition to my toolset won’t also provide me with the same excellent, long-term service. These Knipex water pump pliers fit nicely in the hand, the strong, hardened steel jaws have an excellent grip, and they get the job done quickly. For ages I had been using a well-known cheaper brand, but they proved fiddly and sometimes uncomfortable to grapple with in certain situations - in contrast, these are an absolute joy to use. There are various sizes available to suit all kinds of tasks you may need them for, I chose the 10in ones because they’re a more practical size for me, they’re easy to carry on my tool belt, don’t take up too much space in the tool bag, and are handy for getting into small, cramped spaces. As far as I’m concerned, if you’ve been looking for a dependable pair of grips, then look no further, these are as tough as old nails, perform brilliantly, and should serve you very well indeed. Don’t accept second best my friends, treat yourself to a pair of these ‘Made in Germany’ Knipex grips, they’ll help you to get your jobs done just that little bit easier, not to mention faster. Five stars any day of the week for these.Having used a cheap set of grips in the past that continuously slipped off bolts and handles that kept snapping closed on my fingers I gave up using grips like this until I was recommended to try the Knipex Cobra's. I bought the 250mm (10 inch) version as it was the most useful toolbox option for me. so what did I like about this tool?:The jaws are thin enough to reach into enclosed spaces:The teeth are incredibly sharp, they grip onto bolts and wont let go, this is easily better than using an adjustable spanner, although the grips will chew into soft metal.: once the grips are effectively locked onto a pipe you don't have to squeeze them any more, just maintain pressure on the top of the handle and the teeth do all the work gripping like crazy, you can stick an extension bar onto the top handle to maximize leverage.: The push button adjustment works really well and offers a superb range of sizes.: the teeth of the tool have been hardened to a significant degree, these wont deform or roll like a cheap tool.: No matter what level of adjustment the handles always have a gap so you will never pinch your fingers again!.:The handles have been hot dipped and will not slide off the tool.:The only thing I will say is that the teeth are directional, you have to flip the tool over if you want to go from tightening to loosening to get the best grip possible.Yes these are around a tenner more than most brands but I think it is money well spent, these have never let go on me and will take all the punishment you can dish out to them, phenomenal performance!.Packaged in nothing but this clear plastic bag. No knipex card, paper nor blister box.. pulled it out and it was overly oily by the jaw, which i guess why it was wrapped this way..every markings on the wrench were different from any other knipex cobras which further added to my scepticism that I got a fake cobra.. a quick check on Knipex on website then dispelled half of my concern as it seems the 150 variant is a bit of an odd ball with its markings. I bought mine directly from Amazon but It doesnt even say that its made in germany!!!Very dissapointed with my purchase
